It has been a remarkable journey for Clonakilla. When John Kirk planted the first vines in 1971 he had no idea that his vineyard would one day be celebrated as one of the best, and most iconic in the country. It is now run by Tim, one of John’s five sons. Over time Clonakilla’s success has made something important very clear: Murrumbateman and Shiraz are one of those rare combinations in the world of wine that can produce something truly exciting.

Family owned and operated, Shaw Vineyard Estate is in Murrumbateman, the heart of the Canberra District wine region. Their new building is spectacular and very deserving of the architectural awards received. Enjoy cheese platters and charcuterie platters with your tastings if you’re after a snack to keep you going or a lighter lunch.
In the adjoining restaurant, Olleyville, enjoy lunch Fri day to Sunday.

Ken Helm is a 4th generation descendant of German vignerons who planted vines in Albury/ Rutherglen in 1850s. Helm Wines of Murrumbateman was established by Ken and Judith Helm in 1973. They are pioneers of the Canberra District and specialise in Riesling and Cabernet Sauvignon.

The Vintner’s Daughter is owned and operated by husband and wife team, Stephanie Helm & Benjamin Osborne and creates unique small batch wines from estate grown grapes. The vineyard is not far from where Stephanie grew up learning to make wine from her winemaker and vintner father, Ken Helm. In fact, Stephanie made her first wine at the ripe old age of nine! The winery produces Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Shiraz and limited fortified wines.
